Andrew Jay Bybee

By Rebecca Johnson

I had the great pleasure of hanging out with Andrew at our family reunion recently. Andrew is really easy and fun to talk to. He is intelligent, witty and we happen to have some similar world views, which made it even easier to connect.

We talked about several cool and interesting things.

One being that he really and truly loves the Pink Lady. The apple that is. It's his favorite. He also loves apple pie.

Second that he and his lovely wife Lauriel have a really cool dream, to build a cobb house
(plus a music studio not so much for lessons for others though he is open to that, but moreso for his own space to practice and be cretive without bugging Lauriel)
and to be totally sustainable. They would like to have at least one goat and to grow most of their food and I think he said they want chickens.

Andrew would like to teach middle school/junior high aged kids music. He reminds me a bit of Mr. Holland though I didn't tell him that because I figure he has heard that plenty of times probably, but he does-- because of his vision about how important music is for kids, and that he has a similar hairline, and I think he might be close to the same height as Richard Dreyfuss. He believes that really good classic music is important and dying out and he would like to keep it alive for and through students.

He likes the Bellngham area though he does get frustrated about how expensive local, healthy food can be and feels like some people where he lives are trendy and basically a bit daft about true sustainability.

He really likes his wife. I'm sure there are lots of reasons but some of the ones he listed include that she keeps him organized and she is really pretty "which always helps."

One of his pet peeves is when he puts something where he wants it and then somebody else moves it so he can't find it. That drives him crazy.

He loves to play the trumpet and though he does not play it he really digs the cello.

From observation, I noticed that he has a very nurturing side. He is so good with his adorable, huge puppy Lucy. He is friendly and easy going. He is straightforward. He has a genuineley great friendship with his wife. He does things he loves like make music. He is not afraid to have dreams and pursue them. I really beleive that if I needed something and he was able to help me out with it, he would. I think he might give the shirt off his back, if somebody really needed it.

Andrew is a great guy and we are lucky to have him as part of our family.

Lauriel Bybee

By Laure Ward
Lauriel Ward Bybee was born March 8, 1983. She is the oldest of 5 kids, and has always been a great big sister to each. Excelling in school, Lauriel has gone on to teaching school. She currently has her Bachelor's of Science in Psychology and a Washington State Teaching Certificate with P-12 Endorsement in Special Education.

She is also one observation and 1800$ away from a K-8 General Education Endorsement and one thesis paper away from a Master's in Education (all courses finished.) Way to go!

She currently works full time in the 7th grade Resource Room at Vista Middle School, making a difference in many children’s lives.

Lauriel and her husband Andrew have been dating since they were 16. They are best friends and enjoy most everything together. They married in 2004, making that 6 years together married. They are great family members, always making an effort to get together with all the family.

Lauriel loves animals, the outdoors, gardening, cooking, canning, being thrifty and creative. She snowboards, hikes, runs half marathons, has a green thumb, enjoys her farm animals, and her new puppy Lucy. Lauriel scrapbooks, blogs and reads. She is organized and efficient and gets more done in a day than most of us can think of. She is kind and empathetic, always reaching out to help others. She does all this while doing a great job of making each day count, keeping priorities, and enjoying nature and the simple pleasures of life.

Lauriel chronicles much of their life on her blog- Building the Basics-you can follow along if you would like to watch a whirlwind in action.
