Samuel E Glenn

I am glad that I am the one that interviewed Sam, because I am his sister and so I know him. Had anyone else done the interview they would have said “Sam is the 5th of 8 kids, 15 years old, got his Eagle Scout Award this year, going into 10th grade and just doesn’t care about anything.” But IIIII am his sister, and IIIII know better. Sam is a rad guy. He is uber-talented and when he puts is 15-yr-old mind to it really nice and sweet, especially to kids.

One of the most important things to know about Sam is how passionate he is about what he loves, and what he loves is art (and ice cream, except of the cheesecake variety).  He is good too. I know, he drew me this awesome illustration of a flower for Christmas (he even incorporated pollen into the color).  He is obviously creative.  He likes to explore different mediums and types of art, but right now he is leaning towards becoming a type of graphic artist when he ‘grows up’.  He practices quite a bit, he has a pad that he draws on that transfers to the computer, he has even done bits of animation.  Like I said talented and creative.

Sam shares an interest of reading with me.  His favorite books are from the Inkheart Series, which I totally support.  He is always recommending books to me, and I have to say 9 times out of 10 I really enjoy them.  He has great taste.  Currently he is reading Crystal Moon.

A crazy thing that he does is Free Running.  I don’t know who has heard of it, but it can get pretty nuts.  The basic principle is that you can run around and go over, around, under, whatever comes in your way.  He can do backflips off walls, standing in place and lots of crazy other things.  Things that you have to watch because they are rad, but don’t want to at the same time, because if he messes up, OUCH.  No major injuries, yet.

Random other things about Samuel E Glenn: He likes to hang out at the pool or Walmart with friends, play mau (a card game), play call of duty on the computer, his favorite thing about Jack is his goofy smile, he loved going cliff jumping at the reunion, he hates cleaning bathrooms (probably because Mom makes him do it over 5 times because he stinks at it, love ya Sam), doesn’t mind dusting because it’s the easiest, can type about 71 words per minute, and he would like to visit Spain.

Oh, and he would love a pet turtle.

Sam's Eagle

Congratulations Sam on earning your Eagle Award!

Sam finished his project this last December, but this last Sunday, April 25th, he had his Eagle Court of Honor and received his award.  We are so proud of everything he has accomplished and we know that he will continue to be an honorable scout.

I (Mandi) was able to interview and share some of Sam's thoughts and feelings about scouts at his Ceremony, so I thought I would share what he shared with me. Get it? :)

Why did you want to get your Eagle?
Because my Dad encouraged it and Jacob got it.

What was your favorite thing about your Eagle?
Being done :)

What was your favorite badge?
Swimming and Life Saving

What did you learn that has helped you most?
Learning to set something up, follow through with it and be a leader in the process.

What do you think overall of the scouting program?
I think it is a great program.  I was able to try things that I wouldn't have otherwise, find out things that I liked to do that I didn't know about, give me ideas of things that I might want to do/be in the future, helped me learn to follow through and accomplish things, be a leader. I just think it's great.

I really like hearing all his answer, but I think I like the last one best. He said it much better than I repeated it and it just shows me how mature and what an awesome brother he is. Here are a couple pictures from the evening.

And he gave his mentor pin to his Dad :)
